Prior to 1830
On North Street west of River Street was the tannery of General Isaac Bowman, who was born at New Braintreet, Worcestor County, Massachusetts, December 27, 1773. He came to Wilkes-Barre in 1795, and became a vey successful tanner and currier and was also very prominent in military circles. He died July 30, 1850.
